Aloo Paratha is a popular Indian flatbread stuffed with a spiced potato filling. Here's a brief description of the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 3 to 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
- 2 to 3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt to taste
- Ghee or oil for cooking
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour with water and knead to form a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
2. For the potato filling, mix the mashed potatoes with chopped onions, green chilies, grated ginger, cumin seeds, garam masala, red chili powder, asafoetida, coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well until the spices are evenly distributed.
3. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and flatten them into discs.
4. Take a disc, place a portion of the potato filling in the center, and then seal the edges to form a ball.
5. Roll the filled ball gently into a flat, round paratha using a rolling pin and some flour for dusting.
6. Heat a tawa or griddle over medium heat and cook the paratha on both sides, applying ghee or oil until they turn golden brown and cooked through.
7. Repeat the process for the remaining dough and potato filling.
8. Serve the hot and delicious aloo parathas with yogurt, pickles, or any chutney of your choice.
Enjoy your homemade aloo parathas!
